First thing to consider is what is going to be your market for your online business! You may have a product in mind to sell or have already created it but you have to find out if there is even a hungry market for it.
If you miss this first step then you may find yourself giving up because there is no one buying what you are trying to sell. It doesn’t matter if you think it is a good product. What matters is if the public think it is a good product.
So the first thing to do is look around and find out what a lot of people are buying. There are plenty of things out there that a lot of people are interested in and are willing to spend their money on. But if you don’t do some research to find those things you will just spin your wheels.
Now let’s look at the shoes market. You might think that you could carry all different types of shoes and cater to all shoe wearing people. this would be a very hard thing to do because there is a huge pile of competition to go up against. But if you were to narrow it down to a specific shoe that was very popular and offer that in all sizes you would have a far greater chance of making sales.
And instead of trying to grab all of the traffic on that shoe you narrow it down even further to a certain type of person that is interested in that shoe. You can then market to them in a more focused campaign. This will bring you more people with their credit cards in their hands ready to buy from you.
Now this is the method that all of the marketers are using online to get their products sold to lots of people. They also collect email addresses from their web site visitors and customers so they can keep in contact with them and be able to send them more offers in the future.
Once you have found a market you want to enter you will have to find a product you can market to them. Remember, you must find the market before the product because you don’t know who is buying what when you first start out.
Here is a good way to find a market. You look for what products are selling well on eBay by going to eBay pulse to see what the hottest products are. Then you go looking for where the people that are buying these products are hanging out which can be found by looking for forums related to the hot products.
Look for review sites on the products and see what the forums and reviews are saying in common. Then look to see if there seems to be anything missing that is related to the product and see if you can create that needed missing link. There will be your product and your market all together.
This is just one way to find a market. I think there are countless ways one could find a good market. It just takes some imagination.
