Bathroom Renovation Help

August 25, 2010 By: Andrew Pride Category: Bathroom Remodeling

It’s possible to make your bathroom feel larger without having to tear down any walls or give up any storage room. You don’t even need to hire a renovation expert, so you can save a little money and not have to deal with strangers in your house. Your family will love having a bathroom that looks great and seems to offer so much more room. Follow a few of these suggestions and you’ll be amazed at how big your bathroom will suddenly seem.

Mirrors: Slight of hand in creating the illusion of space

Mirrors do lots of things. They let us see our own image, but they also reflect the room. People sometimes position mirrors so they are opposite one another. This seems to increase the look and feel of the space. It also increases the light in the space as well. Mirrors add elegance to a bathroom–or any other space in which you utilize them.

Paint is your friend, if you use the proper color

Choosing the right color for your bathroom renovation is important when you want to make the area appear larger or smaller. Since the goal here is to give a sense of more space you’ll want to go with light colors instead of darker ones. Excellent choices are white, beige, or off-white when you want to create space, and be sure to use the same type of light colors on ceiling to give it a higher appearance. Try to avoid any dark colors as they are tend to give a room a much smaller perspective.

Remove Those Unnecessarily Large Items to Get More Room

Anything you can do without needs to go. If there are items in the room that you don’t need, take them out. Your choice of cabinetry and fixtures are key here. Free-standing cabinets eat more space than cabinets that are attached to the wall or the countertop. A large vanity is nice, but if it dominates the entire room and leaves no available space is it really worth it? You can get a smaller vanity, which is still just as usable, but leaves space for other things in your bathroom. It’s important to use the space as best as possible.

If your remodel requires demolition, you can handle that yourself. The money you save can be used for other extras in the room. Your budget can handle some perks because you have a small bathroom. Thus, there is less space to work with. But saving money wherever possible is always good. The bathroom is a useful space and you need to take care renovating and redecorating. You want to make the space seem larger than it is. Many homes lack space; indeed it has become a luxury in our society. But you can use all the tricks at your disposal to make your bathroom seem larger.
