Ceramic Tile That Thinks Its Wood?

June 14, 2010 By: Aladdin Modjarrad Category: Bathroom Remodeling

Hardwood flooring is great but there are certain rooms in the house where it probably will not fare well. For example with all the heat and humidity in the average bathroom it is not the friendliest environment for a hardwood floor.

The shame of it all is that wouldn’t a hardwood bathroom floor look really quite stunning? If you agree then all is not lost. There is a way that you can get a new bathroom floor that is perfect for that humid environment and looks just like hardwood – by having one of the latest styles of tiling installed – ceramic and porcelain tile that thinks it is wood!

Sound far fetched? It’s not. Advances in ceramic tile manufacture have given rise to a whole new breed of ceramic tiles that can mimic the look of other materials, including wood. These tiles come in both basic ceramic and porcelain options and can be found in styles that look just like a number of different species of wood so you can indulge your inner interior designer.

All the advantages of ceramic tile are still intact when buying these wood look tiles. They are still easy to clean, incredibly durable and will last for years. Most ceramic tile bathroom floors are the easiest of all to clean, especially if you have your tile installer seal the grout when they lay it, since the tile grout in a bathroom does tend to get a little grimy over time.

You don’t have to stop at the floor of course. One of the biggest advantages of ceramic tile from a design standpoint is that it can work as well on the walls as it does on the floor. Love the look of those Swedish style sauna bathrooms that have the sumptuous, warm wooden walls and floors? These new “faux wood” ceramic tile options can help you achieve it for less.
